Preguntas frecuentes

He olvidado la contraseña.

No. Es práctica.

He encontrado un error.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes. You only need a free account, with email or with Google. There are no paid plans and no advertising. Visit analytics (Google Analytics) only runs if you accept it in the cookie notice.

Do I need to install anything or build a lab?

No. It runs in the browser, on a computer, tablet or phone. The console, directory and devices are simulated.

Which tickets are there?

Twenty-four for now. First line: an account that locks every morning, an intranet that won't load, a full disk, a stuck print queue, a VPN that won't connect from home, a new starter without a licence and a shared mailbox that doesn't show up. Second line: a full mailbox bouncing emails, a laptop that isn't compliant (Intune and BitLocker), a user that doesn't sync (Azure AD Connect), a failing Veeam backup, a failed MECM deployment, a web app down with /var full (Red Hat), a Citrix app that never opens, a traveller blocked by Conditional Access, broken SAML SSO, a Linux server rejecting domain accounts and a full SQL Server transaction log. And three network ones: a switch port in err-disabled, a printer in the wrong VLAN after a move (Cisco and HP switches) and a branch that cannot reach an app after a FortiGate change. And three closed with a shipment: a laptop whose drive is about to fail under warranty, a failed switch power supply and a leaver's equipment return. More will follow.

Which commands can I use?

The ones you would use at work for each case, in PowerShell or cmd: Get-ADUser, Unlock-ADAccount, Get-WinEvent, ipconfig, nslookup, Get-Printer, Get-Mailbox and more. Type help in the console for the basics and hint if you get stuck.

Is my progress saved?

Yes, in your account: your best result on each ticket, with points and stars. Sign in from any device and it is there. The ticket you are working on and your changes in the directory are kept in your browser.

What happens if I reload the page in the middle of a ticket?

Nothing: it stays as you left it. The console and its history, the steps done, the network devices, the shipments and the desk view are kept in this browser; so are the network room's changes and each lab's sandbox. Closing the ticket clears that state and replaying it starts afresh. You can clear it all in My account → Preferences.

Can I log a ticket of my own?

Yes: New ticket, in the queue, opens a free ticket with a subject, a requester from the directory, priority, category and description. It has an SLA, states, notes and a closure, but it is not graded and does not count in your score, streak or badges.

Can I choose the time zone or get a reminder to practise?

Yes, in My account → Preferences: the time zone (for the SLA due time, the timelines, the desk clock and the days of your streak), a daily reminder at the time you choose (a banner in the page and, if you turn it on, a browser notification while the site is open), celebration sounds (off by default) and reduced motion. Everything is kept only in this browser.

What is the knowledge base?

Your own articles. Every ticket you close fixed with a complete note is saved as an article, with the symptom, the environment and your cause, fix, verification and follow-up. You can download it as Markdown or save it as a PDF. It is kept in your browser, not on the server.

How do the streak, the weekly goal and the badges work?

The streak counts the days in a row on which you close a ticket fixed or answer a mail exercise. The weekly goal (1 to 7, you choose it on Progress) counts what you do from Monday to Sunday. On top of that, each week has three concrete goals with a reward in points, which change on Monday in your time zone. Badges (general, by area, documentation, goals and shifts) are earned by concrete rules you can see on Progress. Everything is kept in this browser.

How do levels and points work?

You earn points with the best result of each ticket, 10 per lab task, the best communication bonus of each ticket, the weekly goals' rewards and each lab's first full shift. They take you from Support intern to L1 technician, Senior L1, L2, Systems administrator and Infrastructure engineer; the bar in the header shows what is left. Free tickets do not count. It measures your practice in the simulator, not a job grade.

What is a lab's full shift?

The final challenge of each lab: four real tickets of its area in a row, with a shift timer and a summary at the end. It unlocks when you finish the lab's tasks, keeps running through a reload and, the first time, gives points and a badge.

What is the Mail for?

To practise triaging service desk email: requests that become tickets, a notice that asks for nothing, a phishing email impersonating an executive from a look-alike domain and someone posing as a travelling manager to get their MFA reset; since 0.9, also a network change notice, a CAB reminder, a vendor RMA confirmation, a courier pickup and a fake customs fee. You check the headers, choose what to do and see whether it was right and why. It has folders (inbox, starred, sent, archive and spam), you can report phishing, reply with templates or free text (replying to phishing is flagged as bad practice) and write to a fictional internal contact.

What if I have to wait for the user or a vendor?

Set the ticket to Pending user or Pending vendor with a short reason. The SLA pauses and the console is read-only until you press Resume. Paused time does not count or cost points, and every change goes into the ticket's activity. If you unassign yourself, the ticket goes back to New but the SLA keeps running.

Can I talk to the user on the ticket?

Yes: with the ticket in progress, Contact the requester lets you choose from prepared questions. Useful ones give clues the console does not (they go into What you know), and each question costs a minute of SLA. Some are bad practice, like asking for their password, and get flagged. After applying a fix you can ask them to confirm it works. It is not required: every ticket can be solved with the console.

What is the note to the user and how is it marked?

What the requester reads when you close: what was wrong in plain words and what they need to do. There are templates whose [gaps] you fill in. It is marked out of 5 (their name, no jargon, next step, no internal details, ready to send) and gives a separate communication bonus: it does not change the ticket's result or points. The details are in the help.

I forgot my password. What do I do?

On Sign in, press Forgot your password? and type your email. If there is an account with that email, you get a link that expires in 30 minutes. If your account signs in with Google, use Continue with Google: it has no password. More details in the help.

What is the network room?

Contoso's switches, branch router and firewall, each with its card (model, firmware, location, management IP), its health and ping and traceroute diagnostics. Open CLI gives you each device's command line, in Cisco IOS, HP ArubaOS-Switch or FortiOS, with abbreviations, modes and the same error messages as the real device. What you change shows in the health and the inventory, and on a switch it stays unsaved until you run write memory. The devices of an open ticket work on that ticket.

What are Shipments?

The section for vendor RMAs, shipments to users, device returns and loans: you create a draft with the asset, the carrier, the addresses and, for an RMA, the fault and the evidence; you request it and move it through its steps (pickup, transit, delivery) with a simulated clock and tracking events. Each step takes simulated hours that count against the SLA unless the ticket is Pending vendor. The inventory shows each device's state (in RMA, on loan, replaced). Practice shipments are kept in your browser.

What is in the Library?

A short reference per area (Active Directory, Windows and DNS, Microsoft 365, Intune and BitLocker, Linux, Citrix, backups and SQL Server, network, hardware and RMA, and the service desk process): what it is, the commands the simulator understands, common causes and good practice, with links to the tickets that practise it and to the guides. It teaches the area, but never says what is wrong in a ticket.

What are the Labs?

Free practice by area, with no SLA and no score: Active Directory, network, Windows, Microsoft 365 and Linux. Each lab has a console and four to six guided tasks that tick themselves when the state changes (an account unlocked, a port in its VLAN and saved). It is a separate copy: it does not change the tickets or the directory. Your progress is kept in the browser and each lab can be reset.

What does Profile and career show?

Your practice by area (tickets solved, average score, communication mark and lab tasks), a chart of your level by area, a path from service desk L1 to L2, sysadmin and infrastructure, and network and cloud with the recommended next step, and a Markdown summary you can download. That summary says clearly that it is practice in a simulator, not work experience.

Can I repeat a ticket?

Yes, from the Closed tab of the queue. Your best result is kept.

How do I delete my account?

From My account, with the Delete my account button. Your account, sessions and progress are deleted straight away. The details are in the privacy policy.

Does it count as work experience?

No. It is practice. You can mention it on your CV or in an interview as training or a personal project, and explain which tickets you solved and how, but not as a job.

Does it help with a certification?

It is not built for any exam and has no connection with Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA or other bodies. What you practise (Active Directory, DNS, Exchange Online, Intune) does show up in everyday support work and in many syllabuses.

How does it relate to the guides?

Every ticket links to its step-by-step guide on inigogonzalezgarcia.github.io, and many guides link to the ticket that practises them. The guide explains; the ticket makes you do it.

Can a class or a team use it?

Yes: each person creates their own free account. There is no dashboard for teachers or team leads yet. If you are interested, tell me.

I found a bug. How do I report it?

From Report a problem (also in the footer of every page and in My account). Say which ticket it was, what you typed and what you expected to happen.
