What SysAdmin Desks is

A free IT support desk simulator that runs in your browser. You take the seat of a technician at a fictional company, Contoso, pick up tickets from users, investigate, fix the cause and close with a work note.

What is inside

There are six tickets right now: Active Directory, network and DNS, Windows, printers, Exchange Online and Intune with BitLocker. More will follow.

Who it is for

Every ticket shows its level, and each one links to its step-by-step guide, which explains what you are practising.

How a ticket is checked

Your answer is not compared with a template. Every command changes the state of the simulated device, directory or mailbox, and the ticket only counts as fixed when the cause is gone from that state and you have checked it. That is why there are tempting fixes that look right and solve nothing: unlocking an account that is going to lock again, for example.

When you close it, you get one of three results (resolved, resolved with observations or unresolved) with the reasons: the work note, the resolution code, the SLA and whether you closed it too early. Each ticket also has automated tests that solve it from start to finish, in English and Spanish, before it is published.

What it is not

Who makes it

SysAdmin Desks is a personal project by Iñigo González, an IT operations and infrastructure technician. It is free, with no advertising or analytics. The tickets come from situations that repeat on any help desk, told with made-up data.
